Biography
Andson Clério is a Brazilian sculptor whose practice explores the structural principles of living systems through sculpture.
Self-taught, he began developing his sculptural practice in 2012, initially working intuitively with organic forms. Over time, his observation of trees, their structures and patterns became an important starting point for his work.
He works primarily with steel wire, copper and brass, shaping each sculpture by hand with pliers, without welding or visible joints. His process begins with forms observed in nature, which are then transformed and developed freely through the act of making.
Based in Serra da Mantiqueira – Minas Gerais, Brazil, Andson continues to develop his practice through sculptures that explore growth, branching, repetition and the interconnected structures found in nature.
His works include the series Roots of Life and unique sculptures such as Tree of Life, Duality, Salix and Yggdrasil.
Statement
My work explores the structural principles of living systems through sculpture.
I started making sculptures intuitively, without any particular intention. Over time, observing trees and their organic shapes led me to a deeper interest in their structures, growth and patterns.
I work with steel wire, copper and brass, shaping the material with my hands and pliers, without welding or joints.
I am particularly interested in fractal structures and how complex shapes can expand at different scales and patterns.
I usually start with a pattern that I have observed in nature. From there, I break with this pattern and develop the form in my own way.
Process
I work directly with metal wire, using my hands and pliers to bend, twist and shape it. The sculpture takes shape progressively.
The sculptures are made without welding or joints. Each connection is formed directly through the wire itself.
